About
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in both New York State and the state of New Jersey. As such, I practice privately with locations in the Manhattan and Northern New Jersey. My work experience is diverse, with a strong focus on delivering systemic psychotherapy to adults, couples and families. I provide strengths-based and supportive therapy to individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, grief/loss or bereavement, chemical dependency, and relational issues. I also have extensive experience working with grief and loss, older adults adjusting to the process of aging and those battling chronic or terminal illness. My work is distinguished by my natural ability to genuinely engage in a deeply empathetic and genuinely therapeutic relationship with clients across a wide spectrum of challenges.
I received my Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) from Columbia University School of Social Work and a Master of Science in Social Research (MS) from Hunter College. My degrees and concentrations include studies in sociology, psychology, and psychiatric social work in New York as well as institutions overseas. I have training in motivational interviewing; cognitive behavioral therapy; mindfulness; guided mental imagery; structural family therapy. I am certified in domestic violence and have received extensive training and certifications in Salvador Minuchin’s structural family therapy modalities. I also have post-graduate training in palliative care and high-risk populations.
MY APPROACH
People usually seek therapy when they experience unhappiness. Reaching out for help when that occurs takes courage. With compassion, respect and care, we will work together to address your challenges, focusing on your feelings, thoughts and desires. We will explore how you function in the world and help you to connect insightfully to that part of yourself in need of attention and support. I will help you Identify and explore patterns in your life. You will learn to manage emotional and behavioral barriers. We will do this in a safe and comforting place.
SPECIAL FOCUS
I apply a holistic mind/body/spirit approach and philosophy to therapy, which can help unblock emotions, address distorted thoughts, as well as traumatic and negative life experiences. We will work towards developing greater self-awareness, nourishing hope, confidence and contentment. In pursuit of this goal, we use evidence-based behavioral, cognitive, motivational and psychodynamic approaches.
I incorporate mindfulness, guided imagery and meditative techniques when appropriate. In therapy you will develop skills that will enable you to better understand yourself and your situation. You will learn to release stress; tap into your strengths; work toward self-improvement and independence, all while nurturing a mind/body/spirit perspective.
